Voices of Resistance welcomed Mediation Center Director Dr. Aimee Bellmore to talk about peace keeping, peace making, and peace building. She explained that the first is about maintaining the status quo, the second, doing things to make peace, and the third, to get to the roots and build peace. Building peace means talking and listening, and that is an important part of what the Savannah Mediation Center teaches through its actions and programs. The Mediation Center is celebrating its 40th year in Savannah and is sponsoring the 5th annual Peace in the Park on Sunday, September 27 beginning at 1 in Daffin Park. This event offers an opportunity to meet with agencies participating in the event, make art celebrating peace, and engage in dialogue with others. The culminating event welcomes all participants to make a human peace sign which will be photographed via drone from the sky. Evelyn Roberts stopped in the studio to talk about Fair Count, an organization committed to building power in historically undercounted communities, that advocates for a fair districting of Congressional and other districts as well as the fair counting of votes. She reminded us that early voting begins on Tuesday, October 13 and runs through Friday, October 30. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3. You can learn more about Fair Count at https://faircount.org.
Just a reminder that September 21 was World Peace Day and September 25 was proclaimed as Savannah Day of Peace by Mayor Johnson in 2023.
